About this place
Set behind a striking red counter, the menu at Tonton revolves around 4 core ramen varieties: classic chuka soba, chashu-men, miso chuka, and miso chashu. Noodles are prepared in the time-honored style, swimming freely in a massive cauldron before being scooped and drained with a flat strainer. The resulting medium-thin noodles have a supple texture that readily clings to the hearty broth.
The standard chuka soba combines a cloudy brown tonkotsu-shoyu broth with thinly sliced chashu pork, green onions, and boiled bean sprouts. Despite its rich appearance, the soup carries a gentle garlic aroma and finishes clean on the palate. Pairing the robustly seasoned broth with a bowl of rice makes for a satisfying choice, while diners seeking an extra serving of meat can opt for the chashu-men.
The shop's other hallmark dish, miso chuka, features a distinctive soup blending a pork bone base with mellow white miso. A soft sweetness and depth from the miso unfold across the palate, pairing naturally with the tender boiled noodles. Adding the spicy garlic set on the counter introduces a sharp punch that dramatically changes the character of the broth halfway through the meal.
Welcoming lunchtime diners and staying open late until 24:00 at night, the shop works well for evening meals. Guests can also enjoy side dishes like fried chicken or stewed beef tendon alongside beer. Payment is cash only, and a dedicated parking lot with space for 2 vehicles, marked by a signboard, is located just south of the storefront.
